About Reformation Church Clarksburg

Reformation Church was born out of what was formerly Emmanuel Baptist Church, and we are deeply grateful for the faithful men and women who have gone before us. We gladly receive the rich heritage they have entrusted to us—a heritage marked by a love for God's Word, a commitment to biblical truth, and, above all, a desire to proclaim the excellencies of God's grace through Jesus Christ our Lord.

At the heart of Reformation Church is a simple conviction: Christ has called His Church to make disciples through the faithful proclamation of the gospel. We believe that the gospel is not merely the message that brings us to Christ; it is the message by which Christ continually nourishes, transforms, and matures His people. Therefore, we desire to be a church where the good news of Jesus Christ is faithfully preached, where sinners are called to repentance and faith, and where believers are encouraged and equipped to follow Christ in every area of life.

This commitment to discipleship has long been part of our story. Emmanuel Baptist Church placed a strong emphasis on Christian education as a means of discipling believers, and that commitment continues to shape Reformation Church today. One of the ways this commitment is expressed is through our dedication to Classical Christian education. We believe education is an important part of forming the whole person. Through the study of God's Word, the great works of literature and history, the liberal arts, and the created world around us, we seek to cultivate wisdom, virtue, wonder, and a love for what is true, good, and beautiful.

But education, as important as it is, is not the mission of the Church. The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ through the proclamation of the gospel. Our commitment to Classical Christian education flows from that greater calling. We want our children and families not simply to know about the world God has made, but to know the God who made it; not simply to become well-educated, but to become wise and faithful followers of Jesus Christ.

In 2025, the elders of Emmanuel Baptist Church prayerfully determined that the name Reformation Church would more clearly express the congregation's identity and calling as we moved forward. The name reflects our desire to remain firmly rooted in God's Word and continually shaped and reformed by its truth.

The change in name was not a departure from our past. Rather, it was an acknowledgment of our responsibility to faithfully carry forward what has been entrusted to us. We are thankful for the generations who have faithfully proclaimed Christ before us, and we pray that, by God's grace, we will be found faithful in our own generation and leave a gospel-shaped legacy for those who come after us.

Our desire is to be a church where Christ is treasured, His Word is faithfully taught, His gospel is boldly proclaimed, and His people are lovingly shepherded toward maturity in Him.

Proclaim the Gospel.
Produce Gospel-centered Disciples.
Plant Gospel-centered Churches.

This is our calling and our prayer: that by the grace of God, Reformation Church would be a people who know Christ, love His Church, faithfully follow His Word, and joyfully make Him known.

Proclaim the Gospel

There is a saying, “preach the gospel always, and if necessary use words.” While we understand the intention to be living a holy, righteous, and godly life, we would reject the idea that the gospel can be preached without words. The Gospel, is a message, it is good news that requires one to speak, in order to be shared. Jesus Himself went from town to town proclaiming the coming of the Kingdom, (Luke 4:43, Matthew 4:23, Matthew 9:35, Mark 1:14-15, Luke 9:2) and even taught on His need to die, and His coming victory in the resurrection (Mark 8:31, Matthew 16:21, Luke 9:22, John 11:25-26, Luke 18: 31-33, Matthew 17: 22-23, Mark 9:31). Jesus sent out the Disciples and told them to “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” (Mark 16:15)

We unapologetically believe that the Gospel is necessary in order for wayward sinners to come to saving knowledge of Christ! For Paul himself argues in Romans 10:14, “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” RCC is committed to equipping the saints for the work of ministry, and whole heartedly believes that each Christian is a missionary to the specific fields in which God has placed them, from their homes and neighborhoods, to their work places, even to their recreation, all Christians have been co-missioned by Christ to go therefore and make disciples and this is done through the proclamation of the Gospel.

Plant Gospel-Centered Churches

Where there are men and women who do not know Christ, there is need for biblically faithful churches to be planted. Church planting is not in opposition to, or in competition with existing churches. Church planting is the natural missional efforts of faithful men and women who are longing to make disciples of all nations. The Great Commission calls us to make disciples, not simply converts. The call of discipleship is a daily learning and life styling in alignment with King Jesus. Churches are the natural and ordinary means by which God matures believers and equips them to go out and make disciples.

Pew Research found that in West Virginia 31% of men and women claim no religious affiliation. With 3% of our population practicing other religions. That is 34% of West Virginians without a salvific and personal relationship with King Jesus. While any given town or city may have church buildings on every other corner and street, the reality is church plants are strategically more likely to reach non-Christians with some studies showing as much as 42% of a church plant’s members having been non-Christians before their attendance. We long to see healthy biblical churches planted all throughout these West Virginia Hills, and throughout the world. We are committed to raising up and training men to pastor and plant these churches, while equipping men and women to go into the nooks and crannies of WV, the small forgotten towns, to the booming big cities, to plant churches, and share the Gospel.

Produce Gospel-Centered Disciples

“Church” is not simply a building, or an event, it is a people bought by Christ who are united together by the Gospel. At RCC we are convinced that being the church, happens in all areas of our lives, and happens outside of simply the Sunday Worship Gathering. We are committed to life on life discipleship following a Titus 2 model where older more mature saints are investing in younger saints. We do not over program things, but seek to invite saints into the every day and mundane of our lives. From stay at home moms inviting younger women over to her home or to do shopping, to hard working dads and husbands investing in younger men as they work on cars, or AC units. The Christian should mature more in the faith as they open the scriptures together, pray together, learn from one another, and point one another to Christ.

While we do not desire to over program the lives of our saints, we recognize the busy nature of our world. Because of the busy nature of our world, we intentionally structure times for saints to be together. We believe being with other believers throughout the week is essential as we seek to grow more into the likeness of Christ. We frequently point out the inability to fulfill the one another’s, if we are not with and do not know one another. One way we seek to do this is through our small group ministries. These are family style meals, and discussions, multigenerational, and intentional times together to disciple one another.
